Passing of famous movie illustrator Renato Casaro
On 30 September 2025, Italian illustrator Renato Casaro passed away at the age of 90. Casaro was best known for his painted film posters and humorous art prints. His most famous film posters include "Dances with Wolves," "Conan the Barbarian" and various films by Bud Spencer, Sylvester Stallone and Quentin Tarantino. Until 2019, he also designed posters for the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg and posters for Circus Krone.
Renato Casaro always used the airbrush technique for his posters and worked with the German airbrush company Efbe from an early stage. Renato Casaro trained as a graphic designer and began designing cinema façade decorations at the age of 17 in exchange for free admission. At the age of 21, he opened his own studio in Rome, making him the youngest freelance film illustrator. In 1985, Casaro was appointed lecturer at the private Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome. Since 1979, his works have been exhibited several times in Italy, France and Germany. He has received the "Best Film Poster" award for several of his works, as well as local and national awards for his life's work.
