In his workshop on May 22–23, 2027, in Büchen near Hamburg, Chilean artist Mariano Soto Lahr will showcase his impressive, nature-inspired fantasy motifs, which he creates using a mixed airbrush technique. In Norway, his adopted home, he draws abundant inspiration from Norse sagas and nature myths, which he brings to life through fantastical, realistic figures. Expressive, good-natured faces, mystical lighting, and enchanted natural settings characterize his works. To achieve unique textural effects, Mariano will also demonstrate his “withdraw” technique, in which he uses alcohol to remove layers of paint he has already applied—as a painting technique, not through erasing.
Mariano draws on his decades of experience as an illustrator as well as his extensive workshop experience as an airbrush instructor throughout South America. He has been living, working, and teaching in Norway for the past five years. His course is conducted in English and, if needed, in Spanish. Assistance with translation into German is also available.
