Airbrushes.com mourns the loss of Ken Medwell
At the beginning of September, the former owner of the well-known British airbrush specialist shop The Airbrush Company, also known as Airbrushes.com, passed away. From 1978 until the early 2000s, Ken Medwell ran the company, which was founded in 1947, together with his wife Rosemary, who had taken it over from her father Arthur Albert Connor, inventor of the Conopois airbrush. After Ken gave up his previous job as a quantity surveyor, he quickly became familiar with the manufacturing technology of the Conopois airbrush and became an expert in airbrush technique. He made the Conopois one of the most sought-after graphic tools worldwide, eventually selling the manufacturing rights for mass production to the German company Rotring in 1988 and becoming product manager there.
In the 1990s, Ken and Rosemary Medwell founded The Airbrush and Spray Centre Ltd. in Worthing and took over the airbrush distribution from Rotring, which withdrew completely from the airbrush business in 1994. From then on, their range included Iwata, Paasche and Badger airbrushes. For Iwata in particular, the collaboration with Ken Medwell marked the beginning of successful brand and sales development in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Ken's extensive technical expertise in airbrushes, which he always passed on to his family and team, including his daughters Rachael and Alexandra, remains a key factor in the success of The Airbrush Company to this day, giving customers confidence in their purchases and guaranteeing comprehensive customer service.
With Ken Medwell's passing, the airbrush world has lost an important pioneer and promoter of the technique, whose expertise and commitment made a major contribution to the development, dissemination and preservation of this tool. At The Airbrush Company, he leaves behind his former wife Rosemary and daughters Alexandra and Rachael, as well as his granddaughter Tilly who has recently joined the team, and three other employees who are closely associated with the family. The AIRBRUSH STEP BY STEP team values The Airbrush Company as a long-standing business partner. Our sympathy goes out to Ken's family and the team.
